Health journey review week #1

So how did this week go? Granted there is still one day left, but I figured I update daily with the exception of the Sunday. Just so I can post the new week planning for Sunday tomorrow. I will give a weekly report on how the week went, the struggles I found and the progress I made. If you’re doing the same schedule I’d love to hear how your week went to!

O and in terms of weight I lost a little more than one kilo this week.

Monday

Monday was a good day. I woke up fairly early, around 6 am and decided to go for an early bike ride. Not at 6 am though, I first had a coffee. The weather looked kind of threatening but I was determined to finally use my bike again! Last year I bought all sorts of biking gear and ended up using my bike just once. Which of course is not so good. But the good news is that I have the gear now so no need to buy anything new this year.

Oostvaardersplassen

The bike ride was lovely, despite the grey weather. I live relatively close to famous nature reserve Oostvaardersplassen so it’s always a pleasure riding through the are and the frogs and birds welcomed me loudly. I didn’t go to far as I figured it made sense to get my legs (and knees!) used to the different exercise again.

In terms of food I stuck to the meal plan so all in all a good day!

Tuesday

So much rain today! I had originally planned to go for a walk but it kept pouring down so the only walking I did was to the hairdresser and back. Not a great workout but I did walk a lot of stairs in the house, refreshed the bed, did the laundry and cleaned the kitchen, so a little bit of exercise.. 🙂

Loved the Greek salad I made for lunch and dinner was ok-ish too. I had made eggplant with feta and a burger (without the bread) but for some reason the eggplant was a bit too chewy. Still good but I should have left it longer. I ordered some groceries online and had ordered romaine lettuce but look what I got! That’s the biggest romaine I’ve ever seen. I was planning to make lettuce cups with that, but I’m thinking I need another use. Haha.

As far as snacking goes I did ‘snack’ on some parmesan cheese. Which wasn’t what I wanted but I couldn’t resist (again) It’s my biggest weakness; the urge to snack.

I also started with my course about the human microbioom today and it is already very interesting. Looking forward to learning more about the gut.

Wednesday

Today was personal training day. I have had a personal trainer now for about 7 years and started it first after getting back on my feet after the accident (read more about that here) I’ve kept it up and while it is not cheap, it is totally worth it. I have started to go to the gym more often though. As once a week is good for maintenance but doesn’t really build anything up. So the plan is to go at least twice every week. We’ll see how that goes.

I had an intermittent fasting day so no breakfast. Lunch was delicious with this fennel and chicory salad. It’s my favorite go to salad for lunch! Dinner was this chickpea dish with spinach, bell pepper and chicken.

All in all it was another good day. No snack attacks to speak of and enough movement.

Thursday

Today was a bit of a unorganized day. I had lots of different appointments and also a lunch date with my sister. That wasn’t planned but you should always have space to make adjustments in your schedule right? I ordered a caesar salad so I imagine that was not too bad.

Dinner was supposed to happen at an event I was photographing in Amsterdam but it turned out they had dinner at 4.30 pm and I just had lunch, so I skipped that and just had a quick shake once I got home around 9 pm. I had thought it would be quicker so I didn’t have time to go to the gym anymore.

Friday

Today did not go quite as planned. I had planned a veggie omelet for lunch but I was shooting poke bowls with falafel so I snacked on the falafel. And ended up eating some chocolate that was still left in the studio. I always bring chocolate to the studio as it is saver there then at home, but today not so safe. Haha.

Dinner was a poke bowl with pork belly and edamame. Let’s not talk about that chocolate anymore. (I already forgot….)

Saturday

Started the day with a lovely bike ride, as the sun was finally out and the temperature pretty good too. Breakfast was a simple smoothiebowl with banana, yogurt, kiwi and a topping of flax seeds, kiwi and sunflower seeds and cacao nibs.

With that said, I decided not to do a weekly review anymore. So this is the first and the last. Reason being that probably no one cares how I did and I can briefly mention it in the plan for the next week. That makes more sense and takes less time!
